New contender for Sydney's tallest residential tower

Crone Partners has potentially eclipsed the height of 115 Bathurst Street with their latest Master Plan Design and Planning Proposal for a 260m tall tower at 505 George Street, Sydney. Crone went through a process on 115 Bathurst Street, successfully achieving a Stage 1 Development Application Approval for a 236m tall tower named the Greenland Centre.

The current height controls at 505 George Street limit the height of developments to 150m. Through an intense Design and Analytic process, Crone were able to put forth a compelling argument to Sydney City Council of the many benefits to the city of going taller and thinner. Mirvac and Coombes Property Group have proven a formidable team collaborating with Crone and Sydney City Council to promote innovative urban design solutions for their iconic development at the Greater Union site. We hope for a favorable response to our Planning Proposal over the next few weeks.

A hot topic in Property Circles is Sydney’s need for more Skyscrapers to remain Australia’s Global City and to meet demands of an ever increasing population. Champion of this cause is Chris Johnson CEO of Urban Taskforce Australia helping to drive council into reviewing current height controls and increasing the density of buildings in the city and at major transport hubs.

Sydney’s Greenwood Plaza launches new refurbishment by Crone Partners | Architecture And Design

The Broadway Shopping Centre amenities are being upgraded by Crone Partners Architects, at Mirvac's signature shopping centre close to the city. The colours in the amenities and corridors, change on the various floors, to help navigate the shopper through the centre, key to the way finding and signage strategy. In keeping with the centres strong branding theme "be you", the amenities are the first stage in a series of projects to rejuvenate the centre in an eclectic mix of artwork, colour and individuality.

Sydney's Greenwood Shopping Plaza, is getting a new and well deserved face lift, over the coming months. Interior Design Packages were completed last year, by Crone Partners Interior Design Team, for it's client Mirvac. The design includes new ceilings to the metro level and upper levels of the centre. New seating areas will also be provided, with feature planter boxes and bamboo planting, to provide areas of respite in a peaceful environment, for the typically busy, city commuter. 

The concept for Greenwood Plaza was to create a new and vibrant modern shopping experience, that did not detract from the shop fronts and retailers themselves.

The photographs featured in this blog were taken in early May. They show images of Stage 1 works, that include ceiling and lighting upgrades to the mall areas. The vertical blades are shaped from Plywood and the feature light at the entry to the escalators made from Barrisol. The ridge to the vertical louvres is constantly changing, creating the idea of movement, ever prevalent in the daily movements of commuters from North Sydney Station. 

Mainbrace are the contractors for the project and Philips lighting provided the LED lights and lighting design. Barrisol is used in the feature lighting areas and installed the vertical louvre blades to the ceiling.

The stage 1 construction is still works in progress, with final lighting positions to be fine tuned and signage to be installed, but we are happy with the results so far. The design team is looking forward to seeing the finished product!
